Aquarium Lighting
If you are an aquarium owner, you understand the importance of lighting for your tank. Lighting plays a few important roles in this type of environment. While you may have become accustomed to using a particular type of aquarium lighting, you may want to consider making the switch to LED solutions. While most tanks use fluorescent lights, LED is becoming more popular for this area of lighting. Here are a few reasons to consider LED solutions for your aquarium lighting needs.
1. LED is more efficient
The simple fact of the matter is that LED solutions are more energy efficient than any other option on the market. In fact, an LED will generate better lumen outputs with lower wattages consumed to the average of using 80% less energy than traditional options.
2. They last longer than fluorescent
In addition to being more powerful in terms of output while consuming less energy, they also last longer than fluorescent. The average lifespan of an LED bulb is anywhere from 50,000 hours to 100,000 hours. This means you can spend more time enjoying your tank and less time replacing bulbs.
3. LED lights are dimmable
Many species of fish have a nocturnal clock which is similar to how humans have a circadian cycle. For some fish, if this balance is thrown off, they can become very ill. With LED lights, you can actually set timers so your tank will cycle through times of lower light to help with the well-being of the fish. When you are able to adjust the lighting levels to meet your needs, you are able to customize the life of your aquarium in a way no other solutions offer.
4. There are more color options
While this is closely related to the above factor, color options are important for several reasons. From using a blue toned light to simulate moonlight to adding a few pleasing to the eye colors during the daytime for your viewing enjoyment, colorful options are a great way to manage your tank. LED offers a wider spectrum of color options than any other lighting application on the market.
5. They produce lower heat
This one will depend on the type of aquarium you have since some fish and plants would benefit from a warmer light. However, most aquariums are suitable for LED solutions. LEDs produce lower levels of heat so the water temperature and living environment won’t be drastically altered by the lighting. This is just one way to have a little more control over the elements of your tank.
